  • Adults Muay Thai

    At Lions, Muay Thai is taught as a recreational activity and as a ring sport. Meaning that whether you are looking for a fun and interesting way to learn something new, improve your bodies ability, increase your desire to get more out of life or test your abilities in the ring we have sessions for you. We have various different instructors

     

    with Ashley BaldwinAshley Baldwin is an experienced Thai boxer and a ranked UK prospect. My classes are a smooth mixture of hard work to get you going, up your spirit&wellbeing alongside a delicate balance of teaching technique's and passing on my knowledge of Muay Thai and boxing. 7:00 am to 8:00 am Mixed ability Muay Thai - Pads and partner work. Beginners welcome
  • Dutch KickboxingDutch kickboxing relies on powerful Western-style boxing combined with heavy low kicks. It also makes use of head kicks and knee strikes. Elbows strikes are forbidden by K1 and Glory competition rules. Elbow strikes are still being trained in the gym just not being used in sparring too often. Dutch style allows but doesn't utilize push kicks or clinch fighting too much. Lions Watford trains students to understand the best Dutch fighters use heavy, more technically sophisticated boxing and an aggressive style of fighting. Boxing combinations are also used to set up head kicks and heavy kicks to the body.     with Andy HenryAndy Henry has been with Lions Watford for over 6 years. Being the first instructor to join the Lewis team to build “The Den”. Andy is the young age of 48 and has been involved in Muay Thai for about 15-20 years, having fought Western boxing and kickboxing in my younger years. “I’ve spent about 3 1/2 years in Thailand, much of it at the now famous Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket, having been the fourth customer and returning several times for extended stays. I’ve also spent time in Northern Thailand, representing SKP Muay Thai, a small, emerging gym outside Chiangmai with trainers from the legendary Pinsinchai stable. I fought numerous times in SE Asia, with a mix of local and Western opponents, collecting about 25 stitches in my face and a dozen wins, along with some painful losses. 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm Mixed ability Muay Thai.     with Leon ChevallierLeon has been practicing Muay Thai nearly 20 years and got his first taste for Muay Thai in Lanna camp in Chiang Mai in early 2000. Since then he has had an extensive fight career and trained in many other camps including Keawsamrit, Jitti's and WMC Lamai. Leon has been a full-time professional fighter and coach for a number of years with a 25 fight career. He has a number of titles and at one point he was ranked number 5 in the UK. Leon started in judo as a child and competed at a national level. He has had a keen interest in MMA since he started training at the London shoot Fighters in 2000. Although he has never competed in MMA he has a solid understanding of the sport and how Muay Thai integrates with it. Leon is YMCA fitness instructor and BAWLA leaders qualified and has a deep understanding of sports physiology fitness and nutrition. This allows him to design structured classes incorporating skill acquisition, sports appropriate strength, flexibility, aerobic and anaerobic fitness. He can also provide periodized programs and nutritional advice for those wanting to take it to the next level. No matter what your level is, he is always happy to answer your questions and give advice. 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm Mixed level Muay Thai session. Beginners welcome. Pads and partner work

  • Functional FitnessThey are cardio intense sessions, aiming to raise your heart rate, get you sweating and get you into that training zone where you will try anything.  Whether your new to fitness or a regular gym goer these sessions will improve you dramatically. with Emma Isichei Emma is an ex-gymnast, She represented her club, region, and the country as a child, and this is where her love for sport began. As a proud mother of two, she continued to train and in her late 30s turned to competing in Duathlons for fun (which she still managed to come in the top 3 contenders (for fun :0 ) She continues to pass her passion for fitness by training others and having fun doing so. Her motto is “Believe in yourself & be strong” Emma own personal strength and love of using her body makes her an ideal personal trainer.  When your brain says no she will show you that its achievable until every lift, sprint, press up becomes a welcome challenge. She has a winners heart and will carry that into the sessions making your success her success and will be expecting nothing less than your full effort in every session.  In return, your body will dramatically change at a pass previously never seen.   Your fitness will be increased up to the level of a fighter. (Emma often trains the fighters during there fight camps).  Your mental stamina will increase and overflow into your everyday life.
