Lions represent England at ISKA World Championships, Ukraine

Held alongside the ISKA European Matt Sports Championships was the ISKA Ring Sports World Championships.

Ellie Harber (age 12) and Emilia Azarova (age 10) having successfully achieved Bronze Medals at the European Championships marched forward to the Ring Sports World Championships.

Their paths led them to the final day of the competition and both met home fighters from the Ukraine in the finals of their respective categories (Ellie -45kg / Emilia -39kg).

Emilia fought Daria Shliakhturova, a popular girl in the Ukrainian team and a very active fighter. Emilia threw her everything into this fight and at the end of the bout the judges scored a split decision win to the Ukrainian fighter. A great bout that see's Emilia take home the ISKA World Championships Silver Medal.

Immediatey up next was Ellie Harber (ENG) Vs Sofia Smetana (UKR). Sofia started strong in the first round and took it on points before Ellie's power and cardio over turned the momentum taking rounds two and three to be crowned the 2018 ISKA WORLD CHAMPION!

7 other fighters represented England in these World Championships and the medal table was a good on at the Worlds.

6 x Gold
1 x Silver
1 x Bronze

Lions Girls attend ISKA European K1 Championships

Ellie Harber (age 12) and Emilia Azarova (age 10) attended the ISKA (International Sports Kickboxing Association) European Championships to compete against the best on the continent.

This would be both Ellie and Emilia’s first international outings. Qualifying to the semi finals where they would both meet home fighters from the Ukraine.

Ellies’ opponent Alina Debleko (UKR) took the first round using mainly punches and pushing forwards being the aggressor. Ellie came into the second round with renewed vigour and we fell won the second round. The judges however didn’t and Ellie was awarded Bronze Medal.

Emilia’s opponent was more experienced in the style set of K1 and took both rounds on the judges score cards with Emilia’s backwards moving style wasn’t favoured on the day, a learning curve for her that also saw her take Bronze medal in her first international tournament.

We are extremely proud of both of the girls and the whole England Team which was headed by (on this occasion) Lions own Colin Lions and Dean (Look Borai). Also in the European Championships England came home with 2 x Gold Medals and 2 x Silver Medals taking the complete European medal haul to :

2 x Gold
2 x Silver
2 x Bronze

Wins at IBox for Lions Boxers

Saturday March 10th saw Ibox host a boxing show in Luton. Lions Jason McHugh and Brandon Webb took bouts on the card, cornered by Aaron Smith and Jordan Chapman. Both fighters taking Unanimous Decision wins on the night. Brandons record now moves to 2w 1l as does Jasons.

This win is especially poignant to Jason who suffered a life threatening car accident just 8 months ago that left doctors saying he would never box again. Congratulations to both fighters once again.

Pantheon 14 – Hastings

March 3rd saw Pantheon 14, Hastings offer Ashley Baldwin his first attempt at a boxing bout for Lions and Subhaan Maliks first bout for Lions, also boxing.

Lions are a regular fixture on the Pantheon series and we were well received by all from the promoter to the officials.

Ashley Baldwin took his first white collar boxing bout for Lions and faced an opponent from Fighting Tigers Gym. Ashley dominated the ring landing strong punches to the body and the head in the first round. Chipping away at his opponent in the second round and taking the win by way of TKO in the 3rd round after landing a series of left hooks.

Subhaan Malik took his first bout for Lions against another Fighting Tiger. This time Atul Brooker. Lions have met Atul before on the Pantheon Series when he fought Ashley Rogers back in 2016 at Super HeavyWeight. This time the bout was fought at 84kg. Subhaan weighing in light at 82kg and his opponent Atul Brooker missing weight by over a Kilo. Despite this Subhaan was keen to fight and took the bout anyway.
Subhaans jab was quickly established int he first round with his opponent moving backwards and swinging wildly in an attempt to hit the ever elusive Lion who drew blood in the first round with strong one two combinations. The second and third rounds were much of the same with Lions Malik darting in and out with the jab and landing strong combinations from the outside and being hit very little if at all in return. At the final bell the IKF judges at ringside Unanimously agreed that Subhaan Malik was the winner to put an end to aa great day for the Lions Team in attendance.

Two fights, two wins on the night then. Well done to both fighters for their results and we look forward to seeing you in the ring again soon.

Subhaan Maliks next bout is on Golden Gloves Boxing Promotions (Brentford) March 17th, 2018
Ashley Baldwins next bout is on Yokkao (Southampton) April 29th, 2018.

I do have ABS – My Story …

I do have ABS – My Story …

Fast approaching 40 and having slipped into the routine of 8-10 reps, while also honestly avoiding the known cardio and abs sessions … I decided to train as a “boxer” & enter the squared RING to compete, 1 on 1 at a UWCB event.
I wanted to be pushed and see just how far I could push myself physically and mentally!!
Did I still have Abs? Only time would tell 🙂
But I was 100% up for the challenge and had no excuses to fail.

I found my local club (Lions) and decided to walk in and find out more!! Nervous, yes, anxious, yes – but my journey had started and I knew these first steps would take me on the desired path …

I started training with LIONS twice a week and over a twelve week period increased that to four sessions a week inc competitive hard sparring tbh! Ouch!!

All staff at the club are friendly and offer advice plus given your own passion to learn and develop you will see improvements both physically and mentally very quickly.
Every Lion, encourages a respectful and enjoyable experience and that is down to the owners and the way the club is run.

Lots of dedication, sweat at hard group sessions and a slight diet change resulted in me shedding 28 lbs. YES 2 Stone!!!
Physically and mentally I had become stronger and was ready for the UWCB event. I am pleased to say I won.
1 and 0 I retire undefeated but will continue the training as I’m in the best shape of my life … oh and YES I do have ABS
